About

Plettenberg Bay Christian School

A Brief History

Plettenberg Bay Christian School was established in January, 1987, by Plettenberg Bay Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Andre Viljoen. The School became independent from the local church and today strives to serve the whole body of Christ, welcoming all families who hold to the same conviction regarding Christian Education.

Plettenberg Bay Christian School is headed by a pastor/administrator giving overall direction and spiritual guidance and an academic head who is active in their own learning environment and responsible for their own students. The academic head also oversees the academic staff with regard to standard operating procedures, student academic challenges, and other matters. Mrs Joyce Tennant (BA HeD) served as academic head for nearly 30 years before retiring, and Dr Kelly Brown (PhD Science Education) assumed the role in 2018. The spiritual oversight of the school was initially entrusted to Mr Johan Coetzee, who established the school during the first 16 years of its existence. Mr James Honiball and Mr Tewis le Roux continued establishing the original vision. Currently, Mr David Hall carries the baton.  In 1989, the school moved from the old Country Club in the lower Longships area of Plettenberg Bay to its present location on the N2, 5 Km outside Plettenberg Bay towards Knysna. Here, committed parents laboured to establish the buildings and sport fields.

Plettenberg Bay Christian School was registered as an Independent School by the WCED in 1993 and is registered as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 203 957) as well as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930 028 028). Plettenberg Bay Christian School also enjoys Section 18a tax exemption status with the South African Revenue Service. Donations to the school may be claimed against tax returns.

Since our inception, Plettenberg Bay Christian School has offered the Bible-based, Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) School of Tomorrow curriculum. The Accelerated Education Enterprise’s (AEE) ‘Purchase Agreement’ entitles us access to and use of their materials.  Today, we also offer the IEB examinations as a South African National Senior Certificate exit route option. This is provided through AEE Online, together with Hatfield Christian Online School. Our students therefore have the added benefit of access to online subject specialists, while enjoying the benefits of qualified on-site teacher oversight. Students may also choose to complete their education with ACE under a joint registration with Lighthouse Christian Academy in the USA for an internationally recognised College Entrance Certificate. This certificate enjoys recognition in South Africa at the same level as our National Senior Certificate.

Over the years, graduates from Plettenberg Bay Christian School have entered the fields of Medicine, Law, Actuarial Science, Accounting and Engineering amongst others. The Universities of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Free State, Pretoria, Potchefstroom and UNISA have welcomed our graduates through their Senate’s Discretionary Route. Plettenberg Bay Christian School students have also excelled at national junior & senior student conventions over the years and have further done Team Africa proud at the ACE International Student Convention held in the USA in their Spring of every year.

Education is life and life is an educational journey. We all learn differently and experience life in unique ways. A personalised system of education in a blended learning environment needs to be based on values  that develop the character needed for a fulfilled  life. We believe this is best achieved through Bible-based education.

Plettenberg Bay Christian School exists because of dedicate parents with a conviction of instilling Biblical values in the youth of the 21st Century. Without apology, we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the highest standards of morality and Christian behaviour. The objective of Plettenberg Bay Christian School is to obey the imperatives of these two scriptures:

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
